A person in this position independently supervises the delivery of care to a group of residents in the Skilled Nursing Care and Assisted Living Units.

Key responsibilities include assessing residents’ needs; developing and updating care plans; administering and evaluating nursing care; and supervising certified nursing assistants (CNAs), qualified medication aides (QMAs) and other personnel who provide nursing care.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Adhering to State and Federal rules and regulations concerning delivery of care, ensuring that effective quality nursing care is provided
  • Demonstrating an ability to perform physical assessment through observation, inspection palpation, percussion and auscultation
  • Maintaining current skills required for delivery of care
  • Assuming responsibility for care interventions consistent with professional standards of nursing care
  • Keeping physicians and/or other healthcare professionals informed of residents’ conditions and notifying physicians and/or healthcare professionals immediately of significant changes
  • Transcribing appropriately and accurately physicians’ orders and those of other healthcare professionals’ orders
  • Ensuring accurate and timely documentation of all medical records, reporting forms and incident reports
  • Supervising CNA, QMA and other nurses, as necessary, including RNs; coaching, counseling and assigning associates to provide quality of care; assigning hours, breaks and meal periods
  • Demonstrating safe practices regarding residents’ comfort and safety
  • Practicing and promoting adherence to facility safety codes
  • Answering call lights promptly
  • Maintaining an updated knowledge base in pharmacology
  • Demonstrating knowledge of policies governing medication administration and documentation, and knowledge of drug reactions, sensitivities and nursing interventions; assuring management of narcotics, including their storage and administration, are properly handled and documented
  • Demonstrating working knowledge of infection control practices
  • Establishing and maintaining positive interactions with internal and external customers, coworkers and direct reports
  • Ensuring residents’ rights are a high priority
  • Developing, implementing and regularly updating a care plan for each resident
  • Recognizing self-evaluation and self-development as important tools in maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
  • Attending facility and department staff meetings as required
  • Other duties as required

Position Qualifications

Required

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Recent clinical experience, education and specialty skills specific to geriatrics
  • Currently holds a Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of Illinois
  • Current certifications for CPR and First Aid

Preferred

  • Good working knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations

Hours

6:00am to 2:30pm, 5 days per week, including rotating weekends and holidays; 12-week assignment

Pay Rate

$35.00/Hour
